Gail K. Boudreaux Independent Director since 2004 Ms. Boudreaux is executive vice president of UnitedHealth Group and president of UnitedHealthcare. As president of UnitedHealthcare, Ms. Boudreaux is responsible for the largest business division of UnitedHealth Group, with $40 billion in annual revenue and a workforce of more than 37,000 employees. Ms. Boudreaux has placed greater emphasis on a regional delivery model that has helped improve service and create closer relationships with customers, care providers, brokers and consultants. Through 2008, Ms. Boudreaux was executive vice president for external operations at Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC), the country’s largest non-investor-owned health insurance company. She joined HCSC in 2002 as president of the Illinois division. Prior to joining HCSC, she held positions of increasing responsibility during 20 years at Aetna, Inc. She serves on the board of directors of America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), the industry’s trade association. Ms. Boudreaux has been honored in 2008 and 2009 as one of Fortune’s 50 Most Powerful Women in American Business and in 2009 to the Forbes’ 100 Most Powerful Women list. Ms. Boudreaux was recruited to the Genzyme board for her knowledge and expertise in the health insurance field. She brings to the board the payor perspective, as payors are critical to the success of Genzyme products. She also has extensive experience in operational improvement, having played a key role in shaping her companies’ turnaround strategies and operating plans. Ms. Boudreaux earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Dartmouth College and an M.B.A. in finance and health care administration from Columbia Business School. She is a Certified Employee Benefit Specialist.
