Top Employer 2009
In 2009, scientists again named Genzyme a top employer in Science Magazine’s survey ranking the reputations of biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. Genzyme is ranked third on the global list of 575 companies, the second consecutive year it has achieved this position. Genzyme placed among the top 10 of all biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies in the world for the seventh year in a row.

Dow Jones Sustainability World Indexes
In 2009, for the fifth consecutive year, Genzyme was recognized as a corporate sustainability leader among healthcare sector companies in addition to qualifying for the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for the first time. Corporate Sustainability is a business approach that creates long-term shareholder value by embracing opportunities and managing risks related to economic, environmental and social developments.

In 2009, for the second consecutive year, Genzyme in Brazil is one of the 100 best companies to work for, according to research done by the Great Place to Work Institute & Época Magazine! Genzyme is highlighted as one of the 20 best companies in several areas, including Education, Female Participation, Best Industries.

100 Best Corporate Citizens 2009
In 2009, Genzyme was named among the best corporate citizens by Corporate Responsibility Officer magazine. The magazine uses all publicly accessible documents to determine who the leaders are in seven categories: environment, climate change, human rights, philanthropy, employee relations, finance and governance.

Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in World
In 2009, for the third consecutive year, Genzyme was named one of the "Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in World" by Innovest Strategic Value Advisors. The Global 100 is an annual list of companies that most effectively manage environmental, social and corporate governance risks and opportunities. The firms on the list are chosen from the more than 1,800 publicly traded companies on the MSCI World Index.

Best Workplace 2009
In 2009, Genzyme was honored as a “Best Workplace” by the Great Place to Work Institute® in Italy. Genzyme was ranked 14th among the top 35 workplaces and 1st among Pharmaceutical companies. The survey assessed employee happiness in the workplace, team spirit, work/family-life balance, pride and commitment toward work, and the opportunity for growth.
