In 2010, Genzyme Center was voted among the world's most important green buildings by Architect Magazine. 150 green building experts and advocates – including architects, engineers, educators, and critics from the U.S., the UK, Europe, and Asia – were asked to name "the five most-important green buildings since 1980," using whatever criteria they liked. Genzyme Center, designed by the German architectural firm Behnisch, Behnisch and Partner, earned the number three spot in the survey, with 9 votes.

In 2010, Genzyme Lyon won the 2010 Sustainable Development Award. This event brought together companies to reward them for their commitment for the environment. With its 3000 m2 of photovoltaic solar panels covering the entire roof, Genzyme Lyon took home the Trophy for Greatest Energy Consumption Saving.
