Behnisch Architects won a 2007 Award of Excellence for the architectural design of Genzyme Center. The project was selected from more than 150 entries around the world. Winning projects “embody design excellence that contributes to the owners’ business goals in a proficient and demonstrable manner.”

Environmental Protection Agency
The EPA presented Genzyme’s Cambridge campus with a “Gold Achievement” award for its extensive employee education program. The training was required for all employees and focused on raising environmental awareness through the intranet, presentations and quizzes. As a result, the Cambridge campus recycled more than 100 tons of material in 2005.

Genzyme received an honorable mention for its Framingham sites’ environmental program, including its efforts towards waste prevention and recycling. The award was given in part for the successful creation of the Framingham Recycling Center that enabled the sites to increase their solid waste recycling rate to 38 percent.
