Genzyme Kent was established with the acquisition of Whatman Biochemicals, located in Springfield Mill, Maidstone, in 1981. Since the acquisition, the business has been relocated to two sites in Kent:
• The 35,000 sq ft Henry Blair Building (HBB) located in Allington, part of Maidstone. Products manufactured at HBB are mainly bulk active ingredients (enzymes and substrates) used in the manufacture of clinical chemistry reagents.
• The 18,000 sq ft West Malling Research Centre (WMRC), located in Kings Hill. Research, QC and Sales & Marketing activities take place in WMRC.
The products are marketed to instrument and reagent manufacturers as well as a comprehensive distributor network encompassing 50+ companies in 25 countries. In addition to the products manufactured in Kent, HDL/LDL tests, lipase and amylase tests, and rapid tests are distributed.
