Cecilia, Genzyme in Argentina
Six years ago when Cecilia took a job in Genzyme’s Argentina office, it was a huge professional risk. She had been working for one of the most established, reputable companies in the country. Joining the five-person Genzyme team seemed crazy, even to her hiring manager. But Cecilia took a chance on Genzyme. As office manager, Cecilia created an “Office Services” department and also manages the onsite Information Technology resource.
“I realized from the first conversation during my interview at Genzyme that the company had a strong commitment to people and to patients. I left my former company on instinct because I felt like I belonged here. Genzyme is a special place to work. What we do really has an impact on somebody’s life and their health. I enjoy the different projects I am fortunate to work on, and due to the diversity of my tasks, this job is always interesting and challenging. In addition, the people here are hard working, enthusiastic, special people, who I am proud to work with and call my friends.”

Torsten, Genzyme Pharmaceuticals
When Torsten, a native of Switzerland, saw the open position in commercial development at Genzyme Pharmaceuticals in Cambridge, Mass. on Genzyme’s Web site, he thought it would be a great opportunity to work for a major U.S. biotech company. He made the move from Switzerland and has been working at Genzyme for about three years. As Director of Commercial Development, Torsten works to service and expand customer bases and keeps an eye on emerging trends and technologies. He also manages custom manufacturing projects and helps meet the needs of customers at different stages of drug development.
“Genzyme Pharmaceuticals operates in a very competitive market and still maintains a strong entrepreneurial spirit. I can relate very well to some of our small biotech clients and their huge enthusiasm for developing new technologies and therapeutic products. As an employee, I also appreciate the stability Genzyme provides as one of the most successful biotech companies in the world. I find it very easy to identify with Genzyme and its entirely patient-focused company culture. At Genzyme Pharmaceuticals, we help other companies make a difference for patients by providing high-quality products and services and unique drug delivery technologies.”

Wilfried, Genzyme in Belgium
In the past 10 years, Wilfried Limpens’ career has evolved in a way he never could have imagined. Having started at Pharming Group in the Netherlands, Wilfried transferred to the company's subsidiary in Belgium that was later acquired by Genzyme. His career has progressed from being a research associate to managing a team of 30 employees and setting up a new department within manufacturing. As Manufacturing Support Services Manager, Wilfried ensures that different aspects of the manufacturing process are running smoothly.
“No year has ever been the same for me. When I first started with Genzyme, there were 25 employees in the facility and now there are 250. I am always presented with new challenges and the opportunity to grow. I started my career as a research assistant and am now the head of a department. I’ve been extremely fortunate, you never know what will happen, but I really enjoy working for a company that provides me with such great opportunities and the chance to prove myself. I have never felt stuck in a particular role and it certainly keeps things interesting.”
