Workplace Diversity Initiatives at Genzyme

We recognize as a company that building awareness, developing employee skills and creating forums to share our differences enable us to better meet our business objectives.

At the core of our values is a commitment to giving every individual the opportunity to succeed. As we continue to grow, we are dedicated to providing innovative workplace initiatives that strengthen our ability to recruit, retain, and support the development of our diverse employee population.

We have created a number of programs enabling us to build a strong, diverse organization:

Working with Differences is a day-long workshop that provides Genzyme employees with an awareness of how to work most effectively with people who have different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. Workshop participants learn strategies for being inclusive and collaborative. They also discuss the impact of inclusion on individual and team behavior.

Genzyme is a corporate sponsor of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s International Science and Technology Initiative (MISTI). MISTI is a program that shows a strong commitment to educating a new generation of global engineers and scientists. This encompasses providing students with internships and employment opportunities in global organizations. Genzyme also participates in cultural awareness training programs, research projects, and networks of knowledge.

Genzyme's Team Member Certificate Program focuses on strengthening the basic skills required to effectively work within a team or organization. Participants select six out of a possible ten programs to create their personalized Team Member Certificate. Courses include such topics as managing conflict, working with differences, managing personal growth, communication skills and more.

Highlight

Mobilizing Talent is a program through which leaders support individual development plans and development roundtables, thus helping new leaders to emerge from within the organization. This program links business needs with opportunities to intentionally “stretch” and develop people across all areas of the organization.
