At Genzyme, we have remained committed to the goal we identified during our founding in 1981 – to seek out unmet medical needs and find ways to meet these needs. Over the years we have developed a number of breakthrough medical treatments that are improving the lives of patients all over the world, and we continue to advance new therapies. Genzyme was the first company to develop treatments for ultra-orphan diseases with less than 10,000 patients worldwide, and the business model we pioneered has spurred others to address rare genetic diseases.

Genzyme also provides a range of support services to patients, including assistance with obtaining insurance coverage and reimbursement, and access to disease information and medical experts. Genzyme supports organizations that promote disease research, raise disease awareness and manage patient assistance groups.
