Imagine working side-by-side with experienced professionals, seeing firsthand how the biotech industry operates, and participating in activities that directly affect patients' lives around the globe. This is what awaits the students who participate in Genzyme's on-site internship and co-op programs. Many of our students return for multiple assignments, building skills and relationships that help them qualify for full-time employment upon graduation.
Through Genzyme's student programs, highly qualified college and graduate students participate in paid, temporary assignments primarily in our Massachusetts and other U.S. locations. Both co-op ("cooperative education") assignments and internships provide exposure to a fast-paced and collaborative environment, allowing students to work closely with Genzyme professionals. With opportunities throughout the company, students can experience many aspects of our business, including:
- Laboratory-based research and science
- Clinical research
- Engineering (chemical, biomedical, bioengineering)
- Information technology
- Quality control and assurance
- Regulatory affairs
- Materials management, supply chain, purchasing, contracts
- Biomedical operations / biostatistics
- Corporate / business development (for MBA students)
- Program management
Lecture series, special luncheons, facility tours, and other company events allow students to meet one another as well as employees from other departments. Students often deliver a final presentation or project summary report to formally document and share their experiences.
Internships occur in the summer, starting in May or June and running through August. Co-ops are half-year commitments, with two sessions: January – June and July – December.
Genzyme's internships and co-ops are open to students in college as well as graduate school and MBA programs. We recruit on-campus at many colleges and universities, especially in Massachusetts, but we seek out applicants from all over, including international students. During the internship and co-op recruiting seasons, open positions are posted on our web-based job tool, and all students are encouraged to apply online.
